March 25, 2014

CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh (AP) — South Africa was fined for a slow over-rate during its two-run win over New Zealand in the World Twenty20 on Monday.

South Africa was deemed to be two overs short of its target, and International Cricket Council match referee Javagal Srinath imposed the penalty on Tuesday, with captain Faf du Plessis fined 40 percent of his match fee and the rest of the players 20 percent.

Du Plessis faces a one-match suspension if he’s involved in another slow over-rate in T20s in the next 12 months.
