Wind advisory, red flag warning issued

December 21, 2017 GMT

LAS VEGAS — Both a wind advisory and red flag warning have been issued for areas along the Colorado River from Parker to Bullhead City and west as far as 29 Palms. Both remain in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21.

North to northwest winds to the mid 30s with gusts to 50 mph are expected. Drivers, especially of high-profile vehicles, should be ready for sudden wind gusts or strong cross winds. Strong winds over open waters will make lake conditions hazardous, with high waves which may tip or swamp smaller craft.

Red flag warnings are issued when fire weather conditions become critical: strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Any fires that develop in the warning period will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged.
