The Chapel goes ahead with shows to continue
Christmas concerts will be held as scheduled this weekend even after a fire on the stage created setbacks for The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Road.
Saturday concert times are 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., and Sunday morning concerts are at 9:15 and 10:40.
Tonight’s benefit concert at 6:30, created to support the Rescue Mission, is now sold out, The Chapel said in a news release Thursday.
Fire broke out Sunday on the Christmas set at The Chapel before services began. With the quick action of volunteers, the fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived.
Pastor Rick Hawks described the fire as “an inconvenience, not a tragedy. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and everything is fixable.”
Concert director Cathy Hawks praised The Chapel “community for rising up and working overtime” to repair the sanctuary and surrounding rooms, which were affected by smoke, as well as the portion of the set damaged by the fire.
“We had dozens, if not hundreds, of people rise up to help,” Hawks said in a statement. “People of all generations in our church showed up. The outpouring of love is overwhelming.
“Parents and children helped clean classrooms, middle school students showed up to serve as a group to help restock lost items, even men in their eighties showed up for days to move and help clean chairs, build, and repair the set to get us up and running for this weekend’s concerts.”
This is the 20th year The Chapel has provided Christmas concerts for the community.
