Senior Citizens Day set for May 14
ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The sixth annual Lawrence County Senior Citizens Day is set for May 14 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
“We had more than 1,500 seniors attend last year and we are anticipating a much bigger crowd this year,” said Darlene Greene, director of the senior citizens program. “We have more than 90 vendors. We continue to grow every year.”
“We’re hoping to get 2,000 people this year,” said Lawrence County Commissioner Freddie Hayes Jr. The board will hold its regular, weekly meeting at the fairgrounds at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.
The program includes free food, live music, a cake walk, manicures, a car show, door prizes and health screenings, Greene said. Free popcorn, coffee, pastries and lunch including pinto beans will be served. The Barker’s Farm petting zoo also will be on hand, Greene said.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. It will be held rain or shine. There is no charge for parking.
There will be drawings for door prizes about every 10 minutes, Greene said.
There will be coffee and pastries for early attendees and a free lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Lunch includes free hot dogs, chips, a cookie and a drink. Pinto beans also will be available, according to a release.
“This is a day to celebrate seniors,” Greene said. “May is the official Senior Citizens Month and we intend to show our seniors a wonderful time.”
