Wells gas line ruptures; 2 hurt in fire 2 hurt in fire after gas line ruptures
Two people were injured Saturday by fire in Wells County after a gas line ruptured.
The rupture happened 6788 S. Meridian Road and involved a detached one-car garage/shop, officials from the Poneto Fire Department said. The gas line fed into a wall-mounted heater.
The initial flash fire caused the injuries, and the victims, who were not identified, were taken to the St. Joseph Hospital burn unit in Fort Wayne, the department said in a Facebook message Sunday.
Salvation Army at 60 percent of goal
Christmas has passed, but the local Salvation Army still needs help.
The charity announced Sunday that year-end donations are about 60 percent of what’s needed to provide help in 2019.
“100 percent of the donations stay in our community to help those in need, without discrimination,” according to a statement from the Salvation Army.
Donations also had been running low for the charity’s annual kettle campaign, officials said earlier this month.
The goal for that fundraising effort, which ran through Christmas Eve, was $558,000.
