Stage Coach sets auditions for ‘Hairspray’

October 27, 2016

Stage Coach Players has scheduled auditions for its production of the musical “Hairspray.”

Auditions will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 12, and Nov. 13, and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 14, at First Lutheran Church, 324 N. Third St., DeKalb.

Auditioners ages 12 and older are welcome although most lead and feature roles must be actors who are, or who can play, high school-age students believably. Auditioners should come prepared to sing 16 measures of a practiced song, learn a dance, and read, if asked. Auditioners should bring their music for their prepared song. Show dates are March 9 through 19 at Stage Coach Theater, DeKalb.

“Hairspray,” based on the 1988 John Waters film, tells the story of the larger-than-life teenager Tracy Turnblad and her desire to dance on “he Corny Collins show.” The story, which confronts the racial issues that divided this country in the 1950s and 1960s and society’s ideas about beauty, remains relevant today.

The show will be directed by Jan Kuntz. The musical director is John Feken.

Those who are unable to attend auditions but would like to be part of the show should email Kuntz at jankuntz1@gmail.com.
