Rhein Fire 41, Galaxy 28
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ Vaughn Bryant scored one touchdown and set up another with interceptions Saturday and the Duesseldorf Rhein Fire beat the Frankfurt Galaxy 41-28 in the World League of American Football.
Rhein Fire (2-0) trailed 14-7 with 1:55 remaining when Bryant picked off a pass by Paul Justin and ran it back to the Galaxy 22. Quarterback Andy Kelly then hit Darrick Owens with a 11-yard TD pass.
A minute later, wide receiver Mario Bailey of the Galaxy (1-1) fumbled on his own 33. Kelly, on loan from the New Orlean Saints, hooked up with Rod Moore on the next play to give Rhein Fire a 20-14 halftime lead.
The game between the German rivals set a season attendance record for the WLAF of 33,112.
The Rhein Fire exploited turnovers to score twice in a 37-second span in the third quarter.
One set up a 2-yard scoring pass from Kelly to Owens with 9:35 left in the quarter. Just 37 seconds later, Bryant picked off backup quarterback Brian Forte and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown.
