MERIDETH, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Marine Patrol says a man is dead and a woman injured after a boating accident on Lake Winnipesaukee in Merideth.

Authorities say the accident occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday near Bear Island.

WMUR-TV reports the two people were residents of Bear Island, which is only accessible by boat until the lake freezes over, and they were coming ashore.

The names of the victims are not being released until relatives can be notified.

Marine Patrol Capt. Tim Dunleavy says investigators are going to resume their work on Sunday.

He’s asking any property owners or others in the Meredith Neck area or elsewhere on the 3-mile-long Bear Island who has information about the accident to call the Marine Patrol.

Bear Island has about 200 residents.
