Food fight leads to officer’s injury at Westhill
STAMFORD—A food fight turned into a near riot at Westhill High School on Friday afternoon as a school resource officer trying to establish order was hit with a thrown object and suffered a head injury.
Capt. Susan Bretthauer said the food fight got out of control a little after 1 p.m. and spread quickly to the school’s courtyard where the officer received a gash to her head. Police did not report any student injuries, although one male was arrested for not obeying the orders of a responding police officer.
Bretthauer said the disruption led to a controlled dismissal from school. After the students were sent to their classrooms police officers supervised the orderly dismissal of students to their buses floor by floor.
As to what caused the female police officer’s injuries, that is still under investigation.
“We have to do an investigation and look through the cameras to see what exactly happened during the melee to identify whatever they threw at the officer, who has a gash on her head,” Bretthauer said.
