Farmers market to hold Craft Saturdays
Those looking for handmade items will soon have a new place to shop.
Starting May 5, vendors who make crafts will have a special venue for selling their wares at the Aiken County Farmers Market. The first Saturday of the month will be a Craft Saturday.
“Craft vendors are welcomed at the Aiken County Farmers Market as long as their crafts are handmade and meet the market’s quality standards,” said Joe Patterson, manager of the Aiken County Farmers Market. “Crafters, like bakers and produce resellers, are required to have a City of Aiken business license.”
Crafters at the market range from those who sell wood products such as cutting boards and bird houses, to those who make and sell pottery to vendors who create art, clothing, jewelry, soaps and candles.
While crafters are an integral part of the market, the focus remains on produce which is grown locally by area farmers. With warmer weather approaching, Patterson said market activity will increase as spring crops return. Produce currently in season includes asparagus, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, peas, beans and strawberries.
The Aiken County Farmers Market is located at 115 Williamsburg St., and is open from sunrise to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
