COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Barry Manning tied his career-high with 20 points and Jeff Roulston sparked a key second-half run as No. 22 South Carolina rallied to defeat Virginia Tech 83-67 on Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks, who trailed by 12 points before rallying for a 36-36 halftime tie, fell behind 54-50 with 11:38 left before coming back to take command with a 10-1 run midway through the second half of the Metro Conference game.

Roulston had four points and a steal during the surge, which gave the Gamecocks (13-3, 3-1) a 60-55 lead with 7:06 remaining.

Antony Moses’ four-point play cut the lead to one for the Hokies (7-6, 1-3), but Roulston hit a short hook in the lane and Manning stole the ball and drove for a layup to make it 64-59 with 5:47 left.

The Gamecocks pushed the lead to 70-61 on Jo Jo English’s 15-foot jumper with 4:12 left. From there, the Gamecocks did an uncharacteristic thing to seal the victory - they hit free throws.

South Carolina, which was shooting a conference-low 59.1 percent, made 13 of 16 free throws in the final 3:09.

English also had 20 points for the Gamecocks, while Joe Rhett added 18 points and 12 rebounds. Roulston had 11 points, while Michael Glover added 10.

Virginia Tech was led by Moses, who had a career-high 29 points, while Rod Wheeler added 13.
