“We want to continue to build our program to be one of the best in FCS football and it’s important to play quality opponents like Northern Iowa,” Weber State head coach Jay Hill said in a news release. “We are very excited about this home-and-home series against a really good program.”
The 2019 schedule gives WSU six home games against Division-I opponents for the first time since 2006. The Wildcats will host UNI and Cal Poly in non-conference games while welcoming Southern Utah, Idaho State, Northern Arizona and North Dakota to Stewart Stadium for Big Sky games.
“This will be as competitive a home schedule that we have put together in my time as athletic director,” athletic director Jerry Bovee said in the release. “We feel our program is in position to play a quality schedule like this, and it will be great for our fans to have six home games at Stewart Stadium. Northern Iowa is one of the top teams from a great football conference and will be a terrific team to play in a series.”
The Wildcats also play at San Diego State and Nevada in non-conference play, while traveling to Idaho, UC Davis, Sacramento State and Montana for road conference games in 2019.
Weber State returns the trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Sept. 19, 2020, for a game at the UNI-Dome, a 16,500-seat indoor facility. UNI leads the all-time series 2-1, with the last matchup coming in the 1991 playoffs.
The trip to Northern Iowa joins a road contest at Wyoming as known games for 2020.
Weber State, which finished ranked No. 5 nationally in 2017, will open its 2018 schedule on Aug. 30 with a road game at Utah.
The Wildcats host South Dakota, Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington, Montana State and Sacramento State in the upcoming season.
