South Umpqua sweeps past Reedsport in season opener

TRI CITY — The South Umpqua volleyball team opened its season Monday with a nonleague win over Reedsport at home.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-8, 25-11.

Junior Shalyn Gray had 12 kills and three aces for the Lancers. Alyssa Rainville contributed seven aces, five kills and three blocks, while Sydnie Johnson made 22 assists.

“We looked really good,” said South Umpqua coach Sarah Gray, who has five returning starters. “There are a few things to work on, but it was a strong start.”

The Lancers play at Coquille Tuesday in a nonleague match.
