Prince to play Super Bowl halftime — via hologram — isn’t sitting well with some
With Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, there was a chance that there would be a nod to the great, recently departed Prince sometime during Sundays game. The logical place might be the halftime show starring Justin Timberlake, who considers Prince a big influence.
Prince indeed will be a big part of the halftime appearing as a hologram, a NFL source confirmed to the Star Tribune.
Thats a controversial move with Prince fans, associates and Prince himself.
In a 1998 interview with Guitar World magazine, Prince was asked about posthumous collaborations via advanced technology. Everything is as it is, and it should be, he said. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing, it really is demonic.
Meanwhile, Princes estate has authorized a Prince hologram concert, with live musicians, at Target Center in Minneapolis on April 21, the second anniversary of his death.
In 2007, Prince famously performed in the pouring rain at the Super Bowl halftime in Miami. It is widely considered as one of the best halftime shows ever.
