Deli worker charged with sex assault
FAIRFIELD - A local deli worker was arrested after police said he harassed and sexually assaulted a teenaged co-worker.
Konstantin Avramidis, 45, of Fort Point Street in Norwalk, was charged Monday with fourth-degree sexual assault, public indecency, second-degree breach of peace and two counts of second-degree harassment.
He was being held in lieu of $60,000 bond.
Police said they recently received a complaint from a local woman that her 16-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted and harassed by Avramidis in the Black Rock Turnpike deli where she had been working.
The girl related she had given another co-worker her cell phone number and believes that Avramidis may have overheard her phone number because she thereafter began getting texts from him, police said. The texts initially appeared harmless but after a short time Avramidis began sending her photographs of his genitals. She later turned the photos over to police.
The girl was working behind the deli counter on one occasion when Avramidis, who was also behind the counter called her name. When she looked over police said Avramidis lifted his apron exposing his genitals to her.
Police said the girl initially ignored Avramidis’s actions because she had just started working at the deli and didn’t want to make any trouble however, they said this only encouraged Avramidis’ actions.
The girl had gone into the deli’s walk-in freezer and was bent over a box when police said Avramidis, who had followed her into the freezer, grabbed her between her legs. Police said when the girl jumped in surprise, Avramidis grabbed her wrist and shoved her hand on his genitals.
Police said the deli’s owner immediately fired Avramidis after being told of the girl’s allegations. They said a review of the deli’s surveillance cameras confirmed that both the girl and Avramidis were in the freezer when she said the assault occurred.
Police said when they later confronted Avramidis he admitted touching the girl and “flashing his peeper,” at her in the deli but he told officers that he thought she liked it.
