Aaron Watson, Kevin Fowler to headline Gateway City Country Jam on Saturday

August 12, 2016

Concrete Productions has announced that they will host a star-studded night of country music this Saturday featuring Aaron Watson and Kevin Fowler.

The night, which is dubbed the Gateway City Country Jam, is set to take place August 13, running from 4 -11:30 P.M. at the Laredo Coliseum.

Aaron Watson has more than his fair share of miles on his tour bus odometer, taking part in the music industry of a number of years.

Born in Amarillo, Watson is known for the classic Texas honky tonk sound, spruced up with just the right amount of modern flair.

He released his first album, shutupanddance, back in 2002, though his breakthrough album, The Underdog, would not be released until 2015.

The 2015 album shot to the top of the charts, debuting on the Billboard Country charts at number one — a first for a male county artist on an independent music label.

Fowler’s sound was born and raised on Sixth Street in Austin. While he tried his hand at leading southern rock and hard rock bands, he eventually found his home in country, releasing 2000’s Beer, Bait, and Ammo, which sold over 30,000 copies in Texas alone. The album eventually led to a major label record deal.

2016 finds Fowler back in the studio, working on new music that has already gained him some well-deserved notoriety. In the now viral video for “Sellout Song,” Fowler assaults the new trend of “bro” country that’s been hitting the top of the charts with surprising regularity over the last couple of years.

Dressed as discount bro-country star — complete with a sideways ball cap, a sleeveless tank, chains, mirrored aviators and skinny jeans — Fowler sings of artists that cash in on trends in order to get airplay and a shot of fame. The video hits all the set pieces of vapid country, complete with girls bouncing about in bikinis and guys drinking beer and grilling meat while Fowler sings: “It’s a sellout, sellout song so catchy even haters sing along/Put your hands up in the air/The lyrics suck hey no one really cares.”

Also playing on the night are Josh Ward Band, KiX Garcia Band and Music Mutts.

Tickets for the event start at $20. They can be purchased at Cavender’s Western Outfitter, Casa Raul (North and South), Mike’s Western Wear, Kelly’s Western Wear, and Danny’s Restaurants for $20.
