Mack-Cali moves from Edison to Jersey City
Mack-Cali Realty Corp., New Jersey’s largest office landlord, said Monday that it has moved its headquarters from Edison to Jersey City. The relocation was announced last fall as part of its strategy to focus on urban locations along the Hudson River.
The company also moved its operations center to Parsippany.
The new corporate headquarters is in Harborside, the company’s complex on the Hudson River waterfront in downtown Jersey City. Mack-Cali announced last year that it would exit the New York City and Washington, D.C., markets and sell off some underperforming suburban New Jersey office buildings so that it can concentrate more on residential and office properties in transit-friendly New Jersey markets. Mack-Cali recently began demolition of the Pearson Education building in Upper Saddle River, after Pearson moved to Hoboken. That property is being redeveloped as housing.
With the suburban office market facing high vacancy rates, Mack-Cali diversified into residential development in 2012 by buying Roseland Property Co., the lead developer of the Port Imperial waterfront community in Weehawken and West New York.
