Cook fails again in 1st ODI vs. Australia
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Alastair Cook’s horror southern summer continued when the England captain was dismissed for just four runs from only three balls Sunday in the first one-day cricket international against Australia.
Cook had a tortured Ashes test series — which his team lost 5-0 — scoring only 246 runs in 10 innings with three half centuries and a top score of 72.
If he looked to the five-match one day series for a fresh start, Cook was bitterly disappointed. He square drove the second ball of his innings for four then edged the next delivery from Clint McKay to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.
Youngster Joe Root fared little better, taking 23 balls to score 3 before falling lbw to McKay.
