No. 17 Colorado Conquers Washington 78-64
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ Tera Bjorklund had 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Kate Fagan added 19 points as No. 17 Colorado defeated previously unbeaten Washington 78-64 Tuesday night.
Bjorklund connected on 11 of 17 shots for Colorado (7-1). Reserve Amber Metoyer added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Colorado won its fourth straight game.
Giuliana Mendiola had 20 points and Andrea Lalum 19 for Washington (5-1). The Huskies were off to their best start since 1997-98, when they opened with a 10-game winning streak.
Colorado led 59-39 seven minutes into the second half after Bjorklund hit four of five shots. Lalum, 8-for-12 for the game, had six of her team’s nine points in that stretch.
Washington tried to rally with a basket off a steal and a 3-pointer by Gioconda Mendiola, getting the Huskies to 71-54 with 4:12 remaining. But Metoyer put the game away with a short jumper with 1:45 left after converting two free throws.
Bjorklund had 14 points by halftime, when Colorado led 42-31.
