Officials name victims of disposal site explosion near Enid
ENID, Okla. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a man killed and another wounded in an explosion at a salt water disposal site in northern Oklahoma.
The incident happened southwest of Enid on Monday night.
The Enid News & Eagle reports the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office family assistance coordinator Eddie Johnson says the deceased is 32-year-old Javier Varraza. Johnson stated blunt force head trauma was the cause of the accidental death.
Acting Garfield County Sheriff Jody Helm says the injured man is Randall Fite. He was moved to the Oklahoma University’s Medical Center. Fite is listed in good condition.
Both men are from out of state.
Helm says a crew was working on top of a tank with a propane torch and a man lift, which triggered a blast.
