August was warmer than normal in Ellensburg

Temperatures in Ellensburg were warmer than normal during the month of August. On 16 days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees. It was at least 100 degrees on three days, according to the National Weather Service.

The average temperature was 72 degrees, 3.9 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 90.1 degrees, 6.3 degrees above normal. The highest was 100 degrees on Aug. 10.

Precipitation totaled 0.09 inches during August, which was 0.15 inches below normal. Precipitation this year has reached 8.33 inches, which is 3.22 inches above normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Ellensburg has been 12.19 inches, which is 3.68 inches above normal.

The highest wind gust was 44 mph on Aug. 12.

The outlook for September from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and near to below-normal precipitation.
