Deputies nab registered sex offender from Pittsburgh wanted since May
Allegheny County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended a registered sex offender who had allegedly failed to register his new address.
Brendan McKenzie, 30, of Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood, had been wanted on a bench warrant alleging violation of probation/parole since May 14, the sheriff’s office said.
McKenzie was marked as a lifetime sexual offender after pleading guilty in November 2016 to a charge of aggravated indecent assault. According to the sheriff’s office, he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in January 2016.
The sheriff’s office said an investigation in May found McKenzie had not registered his new address. A bench warrant was issued for failing to comply with registration requirements.
Sheriff’s deputies apprehended McKenzie on Tuesday evening on E Street in Stowe Township.
While deputies were searching a home for McKenzie, a deputy watching the perimeter saw two people walking through the woods toward the house. The deputy identified one of them as McKenzie as they approached the backyard.
McKenzie was taken into custody without incident. He was being held on the bench warrant in the Allegheny County Jail.
