Family of Hailey Nailor raising money for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
DANBURY — The family of Hailor Nailor is raising money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of the teen who died last week outside the Danbury Fair Mall.
The Nailors have asked for the donations in lieu of flowers at her services on Sunday and Monday to support the mission of the group dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting people who have considered harming themselves, the family said Friday.
An online GoFundMe page already raised more than $2,800 in less 24 hours by 5 p.m. Friday and all of the donations will go directly to the foundation. Another fundraising campaign also is available directly through the foundation’s website.
“We want to remember Hailey for all she had to offer and celebrate her life,” the GoFundMe campaign reads. “The best way we can do that is to help save another life. Please help us by donating to the AFSP who helps those in need and others that need to know more about suicide awareness and prevention.”
Nailor’s death has renewed conversation about mental health throughout Danbury and spurred school leaders to review and expand their programs surrounding student mental health. Police concluded Nailor took her own life outside the mall on Feb. 9 but are still investigating all of the circumstances of her death.
