North Carolina police arrest slaying suspect after chase
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina have arrested a teenage suspect accused of shooting a man to death, then leading police on a chase that ended in a crash, according to authorities.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers spotted a vehicle Sunday that was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Antwon Risher, 19, at an apartment complex the night before, the department said in a statement obtained by news outlets.
The driver, Donquavis Johnson, refused to stop for officers, led them on a chase and eventually struck an unoccupied car, police said. No officers were involved in the crash or injured, according to the department.
The 18-year-old was booked into jail on charges of murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney who can comment on his behalf.
Risher was found shot to death around midnight Saturday in the parking lot of an apartment complex, according to police. Officials haven’t said what motivated the shooting or whether the two knew each other.
