SCHUYLER — Sylvia Oborny, 98, of Schuyler, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Schuyler Care and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be Saturday at Schuyler Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. parish rosary, at Svoboda Funeral Home-North Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Schuyler Senior Center or family’s wishes.

Sylvia was born on July 15, 1919, to Vincent and Julia (Maliha) Fendrick at rural Clarkson. She attended school at Langley in rural Colfax County. She married Stanley L. Oborny on April 6, 1937, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Wilson.
Sylvia lived on the farm until moving to Schuyler in 1973. She worked at Schuyler Memorial Hospital and Grubbs Grocery. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Guild.
She loved sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening and growing flowers. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. Sylvia loved to bake, especially kolaches and delicious strudel. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and was always ready to challenge them at any game. Sylvia was a fun-loving person who always had a smile and hug ready.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Larry) Peters of Schuyler; son-in-law Richard Husak of Columbus; four grandchildren Randy Husak of Omaha, Kelly (Ernie) Schulz of Ozark, Missouri, Deborah (Scott) Cunningham of Omaha and Becky Jedlicka of Schuyler; and eight great-grandchildren Scott Poppe of Lincoln, Ryan and Hallie Schulz of Ozark, Missouri, Tyler and Paige Cunningham of Omaha and Cole, Kyle and Brady Jedlicka of Schuyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley on Dec. 15, 1975; daughter Gladys Husak; four brothers Joe, Vincent, Rudy and Melvin Fendrick; and three sisters Mayme Renter, Albie Sindelar and Lorraine Grotluschen.
