Bills Release DE James Patton
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) _ The Buffalo Bills waived defensive end James Patton on Tuesday, marking the second time this season they have given up on a former second-round draft choice.
Patton played just 14 games in three years with Buffalo after being hobbled by hip injuries. The 6-foot-3, 283-pound Patton missed the entire 1992 season and had not played this year.
Patton, 24, was Buffalo’s second-round pick in 1992 out of Texas. He finished his professional career with two tackles.
Buffalo has had problems with its No. 2 pick in recent years.
The Bills cut wide receiver Bucky Brooks in training camp after the 1994 second-round pick suffered a knee injury and never regained effectiveness. They also released nose tackle John Parrella, their second pick in the 1993 draft, after he spent one year with the team. Parrella has since signed with San Diego.
