Westford Strikes Late to Turn Back Billerica

The Westford Academy boys hockey team got a goal from senior defenseman Mike Mucci with just four seconds left on the clock to give the Grey Ghots a 5-4 win over Billerica High in the consolation game of the Irish-American Tournament at Woburn’s O’Brien Rink.

Mucci’s goal came on a shot from the point that found its way through a screen in front of the Billerica goalie.

Kevin Egan, Jason Bunyon, Manning Gallant and Kyle Wizst also scored goals for Westford.

Billerica got its goals from Matt Livingston (2), Ryan Brouillette and Garrett Climo.

Joe Cornetta and Colin Winn split time in goal for WA (10-8-2).

Lowell 1

The Red Raiders were routed in the Newburyport Bank Classic championship game at Graf Arena.

Lowell (13-5-2) had its lone goal scored by junior Brendan DeMarco, unassisted.

Senior Patrick Cote and sophomore Shawn Martell made 28 saves in net for Lowell. DeMarco and junior Matt Asselin were named to the all-tournament team. Lowell will find out its MIAA Tournament fate today.

The Rams fell short in the State Vocational Tournament semifinals to a very strong Worcester Tech team.

Senior Casey DeCoste scored 17 points for Shawsheen Tech, while Ryan Quinones added 5 points and 5 rebounds, and defensive standout Josiah Martinez chipped in with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

ST takes a 17-4 record into its MIAA Tournament game against Wilmington on Tuesday at home. Worcester Tech is 20-2.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hanover 73

Pelham 37

The Pythons got run over in this one, despite a sterling performance from Olivia Gagnon, who scored 20 points.

McKenna Williams added 7 points for Pelham and Tallie Carney had 5.
