Aldridge, Spurs beat Pelicans to finish homestand 4-0

February 3, 2019

The Spurs begin their annual rodeo road trip Monday — an eight-game jaunt around the NBA and the country.

While that might seem daunting, the Spurs are going into the trip on a roll, having swept their four-game homestand. The Spurs defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 113-108 on Saturday at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs were led by LaMarcus Aldridge, who was named to the NBA All-Star Game on Thursday. Aldridge dominated in the post, scoring 25 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. A pair of Aldridge jumpers finished off a hot start for the Spurs as they took a 23-8 lead in the opening quarter.

The Spurs led 106-84 in the fourth quarter, but New Orleans pulled within 111-108 with 10.7 seconds remaining. However, Tim Frazier missed a 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds left.

The game was delayed momentarily by bats once again in the first quarter, but the Spurs mascot, the Coyote, caught the bat in net.

New Orleans were without All-Star power forward Anthony Davis, Julius Randle, Nikola Mirotic, E’Twaun Moore and Elfrid Payton. The Spurs begin the rodeo trip on the West Coast when they play at Sacramento on Monday at 9:30 p.m.
