Andrew P. Fritschen
GREAT FALLS — Andy Fritschen passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, in Great Falls, at the age of 88.
Andy was born in Spencer, South Dakota. Andy grew up in a farming family with his father, mother, four sisters and one brother.
Andy served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a security policeman in the Philippines. Andy married Ruby Kelleher on April 25, 1954. Andy worked for the Great Northern and Burlington railroads as a security agent, retiring after 33 years.
Andy loved the great outdoors, bountiful gardener hunting and fishing, and mining Yogo sapphires. Andy mined them for nearly 40 years at Utica. Nearing 80, he gave it up to take care of his wife. Andy dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Andy is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughters Barb (Randy) Sakalis, Peggy (Terry) Brack, Mary (Sule) Sarumi, Canda; son Dave; grandchildren Kristin (Roger) Burckley of Billings, Karrie (Cody) Jorgenson of Laurel, Andrew (Jayla) Sakalis, Justin Sakalis, Jenny and Adan Sarumi, both of Canada; great-granchildren Jacksen, MacLean and Emmerson Burckley, Kinley and Camden Jorgenson, Mei Sakalis; brother Bob (Hazel) Fritschen of Wayne, Nebraska; and sisters Gerry Oberembt of Mitchell, South Dakota and Marion Schultz.
Andy will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
A family memorial is planned for the spring.
