Greenwich, Norwalk lead Connecticut on rich zip code list
Connecticut landed one neighborhood among the 25 wealthiest in the nation as ranked Monday by a Bloomberg analysis of average incomes according to postal zip codes, with nine in southwestern Connecticut making the top 100.
Greenwich led the state with four inclusions on the list, including the 06831 zip code that includes most of the town’s Backcountry estates, which ranked 23rd overall with average adjusted annual gross income of $586,000.
Miami’s Fisher’s Island led the nation with average income of $2.2 million, with Manhattan’s 10007 zip code ranked fifth with $879,000 in annual income, one slot ahead of Harrison, N.Y. across the Connecticut line from Greenwich where residents averaged $857,000 in income.
Weston, Mass. had the highest total in New England at $757,000 to rank 11th nationally.
Greenwich’s 06830 and 06878 zip codes had the next two highest average incomes in Connecticut, at $530,000 and $512,000, with Darien slightly above the $500,000 mark as well. Ranking outside the top 50 were communities in New Canaan, Westport and the Southport section of Fairfield.
Norwalk was the lone Connecticut city to land a neighborhood on the Bloomberg list, with average income in its Rowayton enclave estimated at $385,000.
