Stranger returns woman’s keys after she leaves car running before CWS game
First pitch was 10 minutes away at the College World Series game Thursday, June 21, and Joan Hindman was still in the parking lot.
That’s when the 84-year-old Omaha native did something anyone in a hurry might have: She left her keys in the car’s ignition, engine still running.
She didn’t realize her mistake until a stranger came running up, clutching Hindman’s keys.
“I told it to somebody and they said, ‘This is one of those feel-good things about the College World Series,’ ” Hindman said.
Hindman, who has had CWS tickets for 30 years, was too flabbergasted to catch the name of her savior, a woman who had three little kids in tow. She wanted to extend thanks for the gesture.
“For her to get in, shut the car off, lock it and bring me the keys ...” Hindman said, disbelief in her voice. “Made me feel very, very good.”
