Texas A&M-CC withstands SE Louisiana 80-75 behind Thomas
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Rashawn Thomas scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds, and passed out five assists to help Texas A&M-Corpus Christi fight off Southeastern Louisiana 80-75 Wednesday night.
Thomas’ 3-point play with 1:24 left put the Islanders up by eight. Marlain Veal had a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 73-67, and Davon Hayes made a layup 13 seconds later.
Joseph Kilgore made 1 of 2 free throws for Texas A&M-CC before Veal hit a 3-pointer and the Islanders led 74-72 with 41 seconds left.
Ehab Amin made a pair free throws for the Islanders before Eddy Polanco buried a 3 to make it 76-75. Amin added two more free throws with 18 seconds left and Veal missed a 3. Thomas added a dunk for the final margin.
Jake Kocher and Kareem South each scored 16 points and Amin, who made all eight of his free throws, had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Polanco led Southeastern Louisiana (13-12, 6-6) with 24 points and Hayes and Veal each scored 15.
