David ‘Dave’ Massman, 72, was born on May 14, 1946, to Jesse and Ardith Massman. Dave was born and raised in Cedar Rapids where he graduated from Cedar Rapids High School. He then graduated from Wayne State College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a master’s degree.
Dave taught mathematics in the Columbus Public school system for 32 years. He then taught for five years at North High School in Omaha, and one year at Fremont High School in Fremont. Dave coached football and basketball for many years while working in the Columbus system. He also coached T-ball, and minor and major league baseball during the summers while his two sons were participating.
During his teaching career, Dave also owned and operated a shingling-home repair-painting business. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed the camaraderie working with fellow teachers out of the educational setting.
Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane (Fenton) Massman. He is also survived by two sons, Mark Massman, wife Becky, grandsons Joseph and Nathaniel, granddaughters Sarah and Anna; and Jeff Massman, wife Jayme, grandsons Phinehas, Stephen, Samuel, and Benjamin.
