Donald L. Murray, 89, of Momence, passed away Monday (Dec. 4, 2017) at his home.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Chicago, the son of John F. and Anna Block Murray. Donald married Marian L. Dickey on April 25, 1953, in Wenona. She preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2014.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cyndi and Steve Johnson, of Willow Springs, and Pam and Bill Johnson, of Momence; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Mary Ann Murray, of Des Plaines, and Michael Murray, of Countryside; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lou Ann and Bill Winter, of Wenona, and Iva Jean Jaeger, of Wenona; and one sister-in-law, Sue Murray, of Peoria.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother, John C. Murray.
Donald graduated from Eureka College. He was a teacher and coach for 23 years with the Momence School District.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Donald enjoyed watching sports and going out to lunch. He was an avid Bears, White Sox and Fighting Illini fan. He also enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino.
Memorial visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, followed by military rites by the Momence Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wenona.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
