Ex-postal worker accused of stealing from customers
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A former postal worker from Massachusetts who stole from customers along her route and was accused of smoking crack on the job has avoided prison.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that 38-year-old Stephanie Lacroix was sentenced to three years of probation on Wednesday.
The Fitchburg woman was also ordered to pay about $37,000 in restitution.
In March, Lacroix pleaded guilty to stealing cash, gift cards and credit cards intended for more than 30 customers along her route in Harvard.
A postal service agent saw Lacroix smoke from a glass pipe in her postal truck in August 2018, but she didn’t face drug charges.
Lacroix was also seen stealing on two secret cameras.
Prosecutors asked for a 10-month sentence.
Lacroix’s attorney said his client’s crimes were fueled by addiction rather than greed.
