Uniroyal Goodrich To Sell Textile Unit
AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co. said Thursday it plans to sell part of its its textile operations to a joint venture organized by Dominion Engineered Textile Inc. of Montreal, outside investors and managers.
Terms were not disclosed.
The deal includes Uniroyal Goodrich plants in Hogansville, Ga., and Thomaston, Ga., which together employ 1,600 people. The plants produce fabrics sold to makers of products such as conveyor belts and tire hoses.
Uniroyal Goodrich said it would continue to operate textile facilities in Scottsville, Va., Winnsboro, S.C., and Lindsay, Ontario. The plants supply Uniroyal Goodrich tire production materials.
Dominion Textile said the joint venture would acquire its Canadian-based engineered fabrics division to create North America’s largest independent tire cord fabric maker.
