NEW YORK (AP) _ Stocks that are moving substantially or trading heavily today on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market.


Hussman International Inc., up 15 1/8 to 28 1/2

The Bridgeton, Mo.-based refrigeration products company agreed to be bought by Ingersoll-Rand Co. for $29 a share.

Xerox Corp., up 1 7/8 to 27 3/8

The Stamford, Conn.-based business machines manufacturer fired its chief executive officer, Rick Thoman. Chairman Paul Allaire is becoming CEO, taking back the job he turned over to Thoman 13 months ago.

Chase Manhattan Corp., up 2 3/16 to 72 3/16

The market’s more optimistic attitude about interest rates allowed the New York-based banking company to shake off a ratings downgrade from J.P. Morgan.

Agilent Technologies, up 6 3/16 to 82 3/4

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based telecommunications company rose on speculation it will be added to the Standard & Poor’s 500 list. When new stocks are added to an index like the S&P 500, mutual funds that track the index buy the stock to add to their portfolios.


Dell Computer, up 5 3/16 to 49 7/8

The Austin, Texas-based computer manufacturer reported earnings that beat Wall Street expectations by 3 cents a share.

Terra Networks, up 2 7/16 at 59 3/16

Lycos Inc., up 4 7/8 at 58 7/8

Terra, which produces Spanish- and Portuguese-language Internet portals said it is in talks with Lycos, but does yet have a definitive agreement on an alliance.

Cisco Systems, up 2 5/16 at 62 9/16

The San Jose, Calif.-based Internet equipment maker is buying Sweden’s Qeyton Systems for about $800 million in stock, a move that will add to its optical networking products.
