Lowell Man Arrested on Drug Charges
LOWELL - A Lowell man was arrested early Tuesday on multiple charges including trafficking in cocaine and heroin.
Police arrested Jonathan Bermudez, 23, of 31 Mount Vernon St. 2nd Floor, after conducting a traffic stop at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of Mammoth Road and Varnum Avenue, according to Police Capt. James Hodgdon.
According to Hodgdon, Bermudez was initially stopped because he didn’t have an inspection sticker on the vehicle he was driving. He was the lone occupant and during the stop police also learned his license was suspended by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
“During the stop they also observed a large silver hunting style knife in the vehicle on the driver’s side,” Hodgdon said.
Police reported finding approximately 20.9 grams of cocaine and 30.8 grams of heroin in the area of the vehicle’s cup holder and change tray.
According to an arrest log, Bermudez was charged with operating a vehicle after license suspension, trafficking in 18 grams or more of cocaine, trafficking in 18 grams or more of heroin, and failing to submit motor vehicle for an inspection. He also had another charge related to the knife found in the vehicle.
