Police: Make sure to use secure boxes for outgoing mail
Rochester Police are reminding residents to be on guard against theft of materials from mailboxes.
A recent spate of thefts of outgoing mail from neighborhoods in Southwest Rochester has been reported. Outgoing mail waiting for pickup from unsecured curbside mailboxes has been targeted, police said.
A crime prevention news tip on the police department Facebook page said, “When sending mail, the most secure place to mail a package or letter is directly at your USPS Post Office or the secure mail drop-off sites.” That is particularly true if the mail contains a check, credit card information or other personal and financial details.
Other tips include placing mail in the hands of your mail carrier, and collecting mail as soon as it is delivered.
