Benjamin Netanyahu claims Iran has ‘secret atomic warehouse,’ still pursuing nuclear weapons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday accused Iran of housing nuclear materials in a “secret atomic warehouse” in what he says is proof Tehran continues to move ahead with a covert weapons program.

“Today, I am disclosing for the first time that Iran has another secret facility in Tehran, a secret atomic warehouse for storing massive amounts of equipment and materiel from Iran’s secret nuclear program,” Mr. Netanyahu said during a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Israeli leader the world’s most vocal critic of Iran who insists Iran is bent on pursuing nuclear weapons that ultimately could be used against his country said Tehran is trying to clear out the depot and hide the contents.

“They’ve been busy cleaning out the atomic warehouse. Just last month they removed 15 kilograms of radioactive material,” Mr. Netanyahu said. “You know what they did with it? They took it out, and they spread it around Tehran in an effort to hide the evidence.”

The site originally contained as much as 300 tons of nuclear material, Mr. Netanyahu said as he held up photographs and charts that he claimed show Iran’s secret facilities.

The existence of the facilities, the Israeli leader continued, would be a clear violation of Iran’s commitments under a 2015 nuclear deal struck with the U.S. and other world powers. President Trump earlier this year withdrew from that agreement, saying it rewarded Iran in the form of economic sanctions relief even though the nation continues promoting terrorism all across the region.

In his own speech to the U.N. earlier this week, the president blasted Iran and said the country’s leaders continue their march toward nuclear weapons while funding terrorist groups such as Hezbollah.

“We cannot allow the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism to possess the planet’s most dangerous weapons,” Mr. Trump said. “We ask all nations to isolate Iran’s regime as long as its aggression continues.”

“Iran’s leaders sow chaos, death and destruction,” he continued. “Iran’s leaders plunder the nation’s resources to enrich themselves and to spread mayhem across the Middle East and far beyond. The dictatorship used the funds to build nuclear-capable missiles.”
