SPRING HILL, Fla. – A former Lee County clerk was injured Tuesday after a car crashed into a Beef ‘O’ Brady’s restaurant in Florida.

Nancy Nelson, 68, who served as Lee County clerk about a decade ago, was one of five diners taken to area hospitals in serious condition after a 2007 Saturn Ion being driven by 65-year-old Barbara Markowski crashed into the Spring Hill sports bar.

The other four Florida diners were former Dixon resident Kristine “Kris” Boggs, 65, of Inverness; Stephen Greco, 84, of Spring Hill; john Bost, 86, of Brooksville; Jovite Palardis, 70, of Homosassa.

Markowski also was taken to the hospital in serious condition. She lost control over the car, traveled over the center median and across westbound lanes of Spring Hill Drive, and struck two other vehicles in a parking lot before crashing into the restaurant, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash is under investigation; alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.
