School board suspends policy barring graduation memorials
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A Utah school district has suspended a policy that prohibited schools from memorializing deceased students at graduation ceremonies.
The Standard-Examiner reports the Ogden School Board voted Thursday to suspend the policy following an effort by Ben Lomond High School students to recognize two classmates who died during the school year.
District communications director Jer Bates says the school’s principal will be able to determine the details of the student memorials now that the policy is suspended.
District counseling specialist Stephanie Christensen says the policy came from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
