Former special education assistant accused of seeking sex with student
A former North Side High School special education assistant was charged today with soliciting sex with a student in August.
Devin Gilliam, 28, of the 1300 block of Putnam Street, had befriended the victim and would escort the girl to class, the victim told police.
On Aug. 16, Fort Wayne police were called to the school at 8:52 a.m. By Aug. 22, Fort Wayne Community Schools had terminated Gilliam’s contract, according to online FWCS board records.
When the responding officer viewed a text photo, he was able to identify Gilliam because the officer had worked at North Side for several years, court documents said.
The victim also said she had known Gilliam for several years through a family member who had gone to school with Gilliam. The victim said she had confided in Gilliam and the two became close.
Then she started receiving sexual comments which included having sex with her and how it would be accomplished, court records said.
Gilliam also sent the victim a photo of him completely naked via SnapChat, court records said.
Gilliam was charged with child solicitation and dissemination of matter harmful to minors. There is a warrant for his arrest.
