WARRIOR WARMUP: WVC softball moves up to 12th in national poll

Wow! The last few days of the regular season for the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors have been very interesting.

WVC has five games remaining, all in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play, and the Lady Warriors need to win them all.

Looking at the GRAC standings as of Monday: Lake Land is 30-3, Wabash Valley is 28-3, John A. Logan is 25-9, Rend Lake is 19-12, Olney Central is 15-17, Southeastern Illinois is 14-18, Kaskaskia is 10-23, Shawnee is 7-22, Lincoln Trail is 6-21 and Southwestern Illinois is 3-29.

The Lady Warriors have three games today at Kaskaskia and end the season at Shawnee with a doubleheader Wednesday.

Wabash Valley moved from 13th to 12th this week in the NJCAA Division I national poll, which was released Tuesday. Lake Land moved from being unranked to take 20th.

The top seven teams in the ranking stayed the same for this week. Butler County is No. 1 at 46-0, the only unbeaten team in the top 20. Salt Lake is No. 2 at 38-5, No. 3 Chipola, Fla., is 52-5, No. 4 Florida Southwestern State is 56-5, No. 5 is Yavapai, Ariz., is 46-5, No. 6 Seminole State, Okla., 39-9 and #7 Seminole State, Fla., is 50-9.

Weatherford, Texas, moved from No. 9 to No. 8 this week. The biggest jump is Central Florida, which was not rated last week, but jumped all the way to No. 9 with a 48-13 record.
