Darien senior residential campus targets February opening
DARIEN — The town’s latest senior-residential complex is scheduled to open next month, according to the project’s developer.
At 1 Parklands Drive, Norwood, Mass.-based LCB Senior Living has nearly completed a 105-unit continuing-care campus, with independent, assisted-living and skilled-nursing accommodations. It is known as The Residence at Selleck’s Woods because it stands adjacent to the public Selleck’s Woods Nature Preserve.
The new center complements a similar LCB property that opened last November in Stamford: the 104-apartment Residence at Summer Street, at 14 2nd St. The facility represented the first of its kind built in the past 20 years in Stamford, according to LCB.
“This is more than a business to us; this is truly a mission,” LCB CEO Michael Stoller said at a November 2017 dedication ceremony for the Stamford property. “In order to be in the business of caring for elders, you really have to love what you do.”
LCB’s Stamford and Darien complexes each employ more than 70 people in full- and part-time positions, with a $1.8 million annual payroll, according to the company. They would both generate an estimated $1.3 million in annual spending in the area on goods and services, LCB said.
In addition to the Stamford and Darien properties, LCB is building a 96-unit Westport complex, at 1141 Post Road E. The site is scheduled to open in 2020.
In total, LCB runs 18 continuing-care properties across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Its other Connecticut centers are the 74-unit Residence at Brookside, in Avon, and the 80-unit Residence at South Windsor Farms, in South Windsor.
Other senior-living complexes in Darien include Maplewood at Darien , at 599 Post Road, and Atria Darien, at 50 Ledge Road.
In 2016, more than 575,000 Connecticut residents were aged 65 and older, accounting for an estimated 16 percent of the state’s population, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The same age group represented nearly 15 percent of those living in Fairfield County.
