Clemson football announces depth chart for summer; Bryant still No. 1 QB

May 22, 2017

CLEMSON — Clemson’s football team announced its depth chart for summer camp on Monday, and unsurprisingly, it is highlighted by rising junior quarterback Kelly Bryant, whom Dabo Swinney says will be the starter if Clemson were to play a game right now.

Bryant, a 6-3, 215-pound native of Calhoun Falls, will headline a quarterback battle that includes redshirt freshman Zerrick Cooper and true freshman Hunter Johnson, listed as co-backups on the chart. Redshirt sophomore Tucker Israel and incoming freshman Chase Brice will also get a chance.

At the running back position, redshirt junior C.J. Fuller sits atop the candidates most likely to replace Wayne Gallman, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Giants and shouldered most of the carries for the Tigers’ national-championship winning team a season ago.

Championship hero Hunter Renfrow frontlines the wide receivers, along with junior Ray-Ray McCloud.

Defensively, the Tigers retain most of a defensive line that dominated teams a season ago, with Dexter Lawrence, Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and Austin Bryant all returning. With Carlos Watkins onto the NFL, Wilkins is expected to slide back to tackle with Lawrence, while Ferrell and Bryant — back from injury — hold down the ends.

At linebacker, Kendall Joseph, Dorian O’Daniel and Tre Lamar round out a first-team group now without Ben Boulware, who is onto the Carolina Panthers. Overall, Clemson has 13 starters returning: five on offense, seven on defense and kicker Greg Huegel.

Below is the depth chart in its entirety:
