LPGA Event Purses Increases
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) _ The richest 54-hole event on the LPGA tour just got richer. And more of the money will go to charity next year, officials said Tuesday.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic’s purse, which was $1 million last year, will increase to $1.1 million, tournament Chairman Larry Harrison said. In addition, the amount given to charity from the event will go to $1 million, up from $750,000 last year, Harrison said.
``The $1.1 million purse in 2000 dramatically underscores the extraordinary growth of our tournament over the past several years and reaffirms our status as one of the elite events on the LPGA tour,″ Harrison said.
The 15th annual ShopRite LPGA Classic will be played June 30 to July 2 at the Seaview Marriott Resort. Se Ri Pak is the defending champion.
