Park grant workshops resume May 15 inside Needles Recreation Center
NEEDLES — Approaching summer heat is driving the last of the public workshops on application for parks grants indoors.
The final sessions before submission to Needles City Council for approval to move forward with grant applications will be held inside the Needles Recreation Center at 1705 J St. Public comments will be fielded for two projects each on:
• Wednesday, May 15 - Duke Watkins Park will be discussed between 5:30 and 6 p.m.; Needles Aquatic Center from 6 to 6:30.
• Thursday, May 16 - The Bureau Bay project will be discussed from 5:30 to 6 p.m.; adjacent Jack Smith Park from 6 to 6:30.
Community input is vital to the success of capturing state grant funds for parks, according to Rainie Torrance of the city of Needles. Selection of the four possible applications have all been driven by requests from community members. All four projects have attracted volunteer partnerships in the community.
“Come give your input on the final proposed park concept plans for a new park, new park features and improvements for Bureau Bay, Jack Smith Park, the Needles Aquatic Center and Duke Watkins Park,” said Torrance via email.
