Georgia deputies shoot man at house as they find woman dead
VIDALIA, Ga. (AP) — Georgia officials are investigating after sheriff’s deputies shot a man at a house where a woman was found dead.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies shot and wounded John Fountain on Sunday at a house near Vidalia.
Investigators say they responded to a call about someone being shot and found Fountain outside the house. Officials say he ignored deputies’ commands to step away from guns he was standing near. An unnamed deputy shot Fountain after he picked up a gun and ignored commands to put it down.
After shooting Fountain, deputies found the body of Alice Faye Humphrey, who lived with him.
GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles says Fountain remains in critical condition at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. She says authorities plan to file criminal charges against him.
