Man experiences medical emergency during kayak race, dies
BERLIN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities in Connecticut say a 60-year-old New Hampshire man died after experiencing a medical emergency during a kayaking race.
The Record Journal of Meriden reports that the man was participating in the race Sunday at Silver Lake in Berlin.
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Chris Collibee says the man was racing when he experienced a medical event and fell out of his kayak. Bystanders pulled the man from the lake and performed CPR.
He was taken to MidState Medical Center in Meriden and later airlifted to Hartford Hospital where he died.
State environmental police are treating the incident as an untimely death. Authorities have not released the man’s identity.
The race was part of the New England Canoe and Kayak Racing Association series.
